November 2015 President’s Letter

Posted by kadamof on Nov. 1, 2015  /  President's Message  /   0

What am I grateful for during this month of Thanksgiving? I’m grateful for NAWBO National and the women who founded this wonderful organization in 1975. And I’m grateful to each of you, for using your skills, knowledge and passion to grow your own business and to serve the greater community.

It seems hard to believe now, but just 27 years ago (in 1988) women seeking to start their own businesses were required by law to have the signature of a male. Thanks to the strong support of NAWBO, HR 5050, the Women’s Business Ownership Act, was signed into law in 1988. I am truly grateful to the founders of NAWBO and the women who fought for our right to own and operate businesses!

One of the characteristics that sets NAWBO apart from other women’s networking groups is its public policy advocacy for women business owners. November is Public Policy month and we are thrilled to have Ross Harris, Executive Director of the NC Institute of Political Leadership, speaking at our Nov 18 luncheon! I hope you’ll join us for an informative and important discussion about why women don’t run for office. Ross will discuss the key reasons why women choose not to run, and the ways that women in politics have changed the game.

And be sure to register by November 30 for our annual Holiday Social to be held on Tuesday Dec. 8 at Faire, a new restaurant in Cameron Village. This holiday party is always a fun celebration for members, guests and significant others!

In gratitude to each of you and wishing you a wonderful Thanksgiving!

Susan
